Another Lazy Day in TC!
We were surprised to see a Bubbie’s Bagels here in Traverse City and based on our experience in Tucson, decided to head there for a supply for breakfast and for lunch. It turns out, though, that it is Bubbie’s in Traverse City and Bubbe’s in Tucson and the two are not related. Bubbe, as it happens, is “grandmother” in Yiddish, which explains everything. The Traverse City bagels are good but not quite as good as those in Tucson.
Nevertheless, we bought a bagful and went to see Kurt Grockau, Sandy’s brother, for a chat and breakfast bagels (with cream cheese). He has a nice place on the east side of town, a very forested neighborhood (saw three deer in his back yard).
Back to the apartment for a spell and then off to meet Sandy and Dave for lunch at Sleder’s Tavern, a fixture in Traverse City since 1882! Lake perch for R; Chef’s salad for M.
Back for afternoon naps, followed by a few episodes of Midsomer Murders. Cheese and crackers was all that was needed after the lunches we had.
