Chesterfield, Michigan
September 14, 2023 – Chesterfield, Michigan
Using two of our bagels, we made ham and cheese sandwiches, packed up the apartment, loaded the car and set off south. A lovely morning, mostly clear but with some clouds low in the east to keep the rising Sun out of our eyes. Occasional patches of fog, sometimes quite thick, but not a problem. Temperature actually dipped to 37○ in places!
Shared a sandwich for breakfast.
The drive south was easy and uneventful. Since we were too early for our hotel to be ready, we headed first to Tom and Marie’s place in Ray. Sat around chatting for a bit, then Dana showed up and joined the party. Around noon, we all piled into Dana’s monster truck and drove off to Apple Orchard Inn for lunch. Fried perch and cottage fries and coleslaw for R, crab cakes and Michigan salad (romaine lettuce, cranberries, onion, blue cheese with raspberry vinaigrette) for M. Large portions, so that was the meal for the day.
Back to the Oswald Homestead, into our car and off to check in at our hotel, Hampton Inn in Chesterfield. A spacious room (427), although the sitting room was not really separate from the bedroom – a studio suite, with plenty of room. A few technical glitches: One of the two key cards did not work, nor did the electronic key on M’s phone. Also, the thermostat (or something) was busted, so we could not get any heat, and maintenance wouldn’t be available until tomorrow. Also, this hotel had no space heaters.
More Midsomer Murders and a football game. Then to bed.
